Key points in 30 seconds
  • The State-funded bonus écologique has no longer existed since July 1, 2025: it has been replaced by the "Coup de pouce véhicules particuliers électriques" premium, funded by energy savings certificates (CEE).
  • Its amount is not set by regulation: it depends on your income, the vehicle's origin and the company paying the premium. It can reach up to €7,600.
  • The car must be 100% electric and new, cost no more than €47,000 including VAT, weigh less than 2,400 kg and have an environmental score of at least 60 points.
  • Do you drive at least 12,000 km a year for work with your personal car? The "high-mileage driver" grant applies to you if your income falls between the 6th and 8th decile. With a company car, however, there is no premium.
  • The premium reduces the purchase price, but home charging then weighs on your monthly budget: it is the second expense to plan for.

‍

Looking for the amount of the French "bonus écologique" for an electric car? The answer has changed: there is no longer a fixed scale of €2,000, €3,000 or €4,000. Since July 1, 2025, the grant has been paid through the "Coup de pouce" CEE premium, whose amount varies depending on your household, your vehicle and the organization paying it. For working people, especially employees, who use their personal car for work, an enhanced grant has been available since September 1, 2026. For employers, this is a topic worth knowing: your employees will ask you about it when they switch to electric, and home charging will follow.

‍

What has replaced the bonus écologique?

Since July 1, 2025, the bonus écologique has been replaced by the "Coup de pouce véhicules particuliers électriques" premium, funded by energy savings certificates (CEE), according to Service-Public.

What has changed since July 1, 2025?

The grant is no longer funded by the State budget with an amount set by decree: it is now funded by energy suppliers and the other players subject to the CEE scheme, and its amount varies. The general public still calls it the "bonus écologique".

The premium is reserved for individuals who live in France and buy or lease a new electric car. Companies are not eligible. The same person can receive it for a maximum of 5 vehicles.

Another point to know when buying in 2026: electric cars are exempt from the malus (vehicle purchase tax). We explain the rules in our article on the vehicle purchase tax and electric cars.

Why is the amount no longer set by the State?

Because the premium is funded by CEE: its final amount depends on the CEE market and on the commercial policy of each signatory company. The regulations only set coefficients based on the household profile and the vehicle's origin, not an amount in euros. In practice, two signatories may offer different amounts for the same car and the same household. Hence a simple rule: compare offers before signing.

‍

How much is the bonus écologique in 2026 depending on your income?

The premium can reach up to €7,600. In one signatory's example, it ranges from €3,314 to €7,365 depending on your income and the vehicle's origin. Your category depends on your household's reference tax income per consumption unit, a measure that takes household composition into account (Service-Public), based on the tax notices for year N-2 (or N-1 if available). For a quote accepted in 2026, it is therefore your 2024 income that counts, or your 2025 income if you already have the notice.

Category Deciles Income ceiling per consumption unit Example premium, non-European vehicle Example premium, vehicle and battery made in Europe
Energy-poor households 1 to 3 up to €11,250 €5,081.85 €6,775.80
Low-income households 4 and 5 up to €16,880 €5,523.75 €7,365.00
High-mileage drivers (subject to conditions) 6 to 8 up to €27,310 €5,523.75 €7,365.00
Other households (excluding high-mileage drivers) 6 to 10 above €16,880 €3,314.25 €4,419.00

Income ceilings: Service-Public, checked on October 9, 2026 (decile 1: €1,970, decile 2: €7,640, decile 3: €11,250). Amounts: example from one signatory's scale, Hellio, in force since July 31, 2026. Amounts offered by other signatories may differ.

How much do low-income and energy-poor households receive?

More than €5,000 in the example above, for any eligible car, and up to €7,365 for a low-income household that chooses a model made in Europe. This applies to households in deciles 1 to 5, whose reference tax income per consumption unit does not exceed €16,880: their amounts are significantly higher than those of other households.

Why do high-mileage drivers have a separate line?

Because they have benefited from an enhanced grant since September 1, 2026: households in deciles 6 to 8 who drive a lot for work are aligned with low-income households. The conditions are specific: we detail them in the next section.

How much do other households receive?

Above €16,880 per consumption unit, excluding high-mileage drivers, the premium is still available but lower: just over €3,300 in the example above for a non-European vehicle.

Does a car made in Europe qualify for a higher premium?

Yes. When the vehicle is assembled in Europe and fitted with a European battery, a higher premium applies (see the example scale from Hellio, in force since July 31, 2026). There is no longer a fixed bonus in euros: the difference depends on the signatory. In the Hellio example, it amounts to roughly €1,100 to €1,850 depending on the category.

‍

You drive your own car for work: can you get up to €7,600?

Yes, if your income falls between the 6th and 8th decile and you drive at least 12,000 km a year for work with your personal car. The amount reaches €7,600 with a car made in Europe. This is the new measure for autumn 2026: an enhanced grant for working people, especially employees, who depend on their personal car for work.

The "high-mileage driver" grant: who is eligible?

According to economie.gouv.fr and Service-Public, three conditions must all be met:

  1. your income falls between the 6th and 8th decile, i.e. above €16,880 and up to €27,310 per consumption unit;
  2. you depend on your vehicle for your professional activity;
  3. you drive at least 12,000 km a year for work, exclusively with your personal vehicle.

The grant can then reach up to €7,600 for an electric car made in Europe. A traveling sales representative or a technician who goes from job to job in their personal car typically fits this profile, provided they meet the income ceilings. Supporting documents depend on the signatory company. At Hellio, for example, a certificate must be signed by both the employer and the beneficiary, and for a lease, the contract must provide for an annual mileage above 12,000 km. HR teams should therefore expect this type of request. Employees should check with the signatory before signing.

Until when can you benefit from the "high-mileage driver" grant?

The purchase or lease must be committed before January 1, 2027 and completed before July 1, 2027. If you are concerned, the timeline is tight: the order must be placed by the end of December 2026.

What if I have a company car?

No premium in this case. A company car belongs to the company (or is leased by it), and the premium is reserved for individuals who buy or lease the vehicle in their own name. The company itself is not eligible. The question to ask is then about charging and the benefit in kind for an electric car.

‍

Which electric cars are eligible?

New 100% electric passenger cars, costing no more than €47,000 including VAT, weighing less than 2,400 kg and with an environmental score of at least 60 points.

What are the price, weight and environmental score criteria?

To qualify for the premium, the car must meet all of these criteria (Service-Public):

  • passenger car (category M1), 100% electric;
  • new, for its first registration;
  • acquisition cost of no more than €47,000 including VAT, battery included;
  • mass in running order below 2,400 kg;
  • environmental score of at least 60 points, which takes into account the carbon footprint of manufacturing and transport. The list of eligible vehicles is published online.

A demonstration vehicle is also eligible if it is bought or leased 3 to 12 months after its first registration. The scheme is open until August 31, 2029.

Purchase or long-term lease: how long must you keep the car?

At least 2 years in both cases. The premium applies to purchases as well as long-term leases: for a lease, the contract must last at least 2 years; for a purchase, you must keep the vehicle for at least 2 years.

‍

How do you get the Coup de pouce premium?

By applying to a signatory company before signing the quote, the purchase order or the lease contract ("the grant application must be made before the date the operation is committed", states economie.gouv.fr). This is the step not to miss.

Is the premium advanced by the seller or paid after the purchase?

Both exist, depending on the signatory: the seller or lessor advances the premium and deducts it from the price or the first lease payment, or the premium is paid after the purchase. Have your ID, your tax or non-taxation notice, the quote or purchase order and a sworn statement ready.

Why compare offers from signatory companies?

Since the amount varies from one signatory to another, check the list of signatory companies and compare. Some manufacturers and dealers work with a signatory and handle the application for you: ask for the exact amount in writing before committing.

‍

Which other grants can the premium be combined with?

The premium cannot be combined with any other CEE-funded grant: social leasing is the best-known example, so you have to choose one or the other.

Grants from local authorities (regions, metropolitan areas) are not CEE grants. Whether they can be combined with the premium depends on the rules of each local grant: check with your local authority.

For a used electric car, a separate grant has been available since September 1, 2026 (economie.gouv.fr). It is open with no income conditions, for a 100% electric car first registered in France between 2017 and 2023, bought or leased from an authorized professional, with a battery at least at 80% of its original capacity (failing that, a remaining range of at least 200 km or at least 80% of the certified range). You must keep it for 3 years. The administration does not publish a base amount: it depends on the operator.

‍

After the purchase, how do you organize home charging?

With a home charging station, for which the employer can cover the installation and part of the charging costs. The premium reduces the purchase price, but the recurring expense is energy: for an employee who drives a lot, charging at home overnight remains the most practical solution.

Two uses of CEE coexist and should not be confused. "Vehicle CEE" fund the Coup de pouce premium, paid to the individual who buys or leases their car. "Charging station CEE" fund certain charging point installations, under conditions specific to each program: we detail them in our article on grants for installing charging stations in companies.

For employers, the question becomes: how do you equip employees' homes and cover their charging costs in compliance with the rules? We explain the options (installation, reimbursement, taxation) in our guide to installing a charging station at your employees' homes. The compact Qobox mini charging station was designed for charging at employees' homes. And to estimate the cost, see how much a charge costs.
