Electric cars: what to expect in 2022

With technological advances and increasing demand, the supply of electric mobility continues to expand every year. 2022 will be particularly marked by the arrival of new SUV vehicles. A look back at seven models that will be offered to you next year.

Volkswagen ID.5

Expected to be released in March 2022, the ID.5 Coupé SUV is the streamlined and more dynamic version of the ID.4. Using the same interior and the same materials, this model includes a digital dashboard and a touchscreen that includes almost all the controls. Small novelty: its battery with a net capacity of 77 kWh, which allows you to travel up to 520 km on a charge.

Characteristics: 4.60 m in length, 1.85 m in width, 1.61 m in height and 2.77 m in wheelbase.

Price: from 45,000€.

Kia EV6

Kia is planning the EV6 by the end of 2022, a sporty-looking SUV using the same technique as the Hyundai Ioniq 5. This model has a 77.4 kWh battery for an announced range of 510 km. He is one of the 7 finalists of the CoTY — European Car of the Year 2022 European Trophy.

Characteristics: 4.7 m in length, 1.8 m in width, 1.55 m in height and 2.9 m in wheelbase.

Price: from 66,990€.

BMW iX

At the beginning of 2022, BMW will offer 'iX', its first 100% electric SUV. With a range of up to 630 km, the German manufacturer's vehicle is already positioned as a premium SUV. It has an 11 kW on-board charger and can be purchased with many options such as metallic paint, aerodynamic rims, a panoramic roof or even a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound hi-fi system.

Characteristics: 4.95 m in length, 1.97 m in width, 1.70 m in height.

Price: from 103,500€.

Subaru Solterra

Subaru Solterra is the first 100% electric car from the Japanese manufacturer. An almost exact copy of the Toyota BZ4X, it inherits a 71.4 kWh battery for a theoretical range of 450 km. It can accept up to 150 kWh for recharging. Two versions will be proposed:

  • a basic version with a single electric motor on the front axle;
  • a version with two engines (one in front, the other behind).

This model with its refined design will be sold in Europe in mid-2022 as a 2023 model.

Characteristics: 4.69 m in length, 1.86 m in width, 1.65 m in height and 2.85 m in wheelbase.

Price: For the time being, no price has been announced.

2023 Cadillac Lyriq

The Cadillac Lyriq SUV is the brand's first all-electric vehicle. Standing out for its elegant futuristic design, the car will first be reserved for the American market for a launch scheduled for the first half of 2022. It is a model with an electric motor and a 100 kWh battery. In total, some 480 km of autonomy are promised by the manufacturer.

Characteristics: 5 m in length, 1.98 m in width, 1.62 m in height and 3.09 m in wheelbase.

Price: starting at $59,990 (around €49,900).

Renault Mégane 100% electric

Welcome aboard the new Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric electric car, scheduled for France in March 2022. More simply called the “Mégane Electric”, this hatchback integrates a technological environment developed in partnership with Google and compact dimensions. It is available in several configurations and offers two batteries:

  • 40 kWh for a range of 300 km;
  • 60 kWh for a range of 470 km.

Characteristics: 4.21 m in length, 1.78 m in width, 1.50 m in height and 2.70 m in wheelbase.

Price: from 34,000€.

Mercedes-Benz EQB

Announced for the first quarter of 2022, the Mercedes EQB is a new 100% electric SUV offering 5 and 7 seat configurations. A single engine and two finishes ('AMG Line' and 'Progressive') are currently planned. The vehicle is equipped with a 66.5 kWh battery for a range of up to 423 km, as well as a 495 l trunk.

Characteristics: 4.68 m in length, 1.83 m in width, 1.66 m in height and 2.83 m in wheelbase.
